Exam Outline

The exam will consist of the following topics:
Square root
Percent
Operations with fractions
Ratio/proportion/rate
Rounding off

There will be calculation questions for each topic as follows:
1. Finding square root and finding a number squared.
2. Calculating percent of a number, including word problems (sale price, discount, taxes).
3. Changing fractions and decimals into percent and vice versa.
4. All operations with fractions: adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing.
5. Solving ratio/proportion/rate questions: calculating equivalent ratios, finding the "missing" term.
6. You may be asked to round off your answers, depending on the question.
7. All work must be shown on the exam.
8. Calculators will be allowed.

Review pages 142 -143:
Chapter one: omit 1 - 20
Chapter two : omit 25 - 34 until further notice
Chapter three: omit 14 and 15
Chapter four: do all questions

Your recipe assignment is due Dec. 1. If you have forgotten the details, please read below:

You are to find a recipe of your choice on the internet with at least 5 ingredients.
You must copy and paste the recipe into Word, and use 12 font sized type.

Double the recipe. Write the new quantities of ingredients.
Make the recipe 10 times larger. Write the new quantities of ingredients.
Cut the recipe in half. Write the new quantities of ingredients.

Final exam is cumulative. It is worth 15% of the final grade.

Course work:
Textbook assignments and Journal :These assignments are not graded. They are used to give the teacher an idea of how well the student is grasping the material in class.

Handout assignments: graded
Quizzes, tests: graded
Marks are cumulative for each term.
Late assignments: 10% reduction per day up to 50%. Any assignment not handed in after 5 days will be zero.

Handout assignments represent 75% of the term mark; tests and quizzes represent 25% of the term mark.



Assessment is used for various purposes.
Assessment for learning: where assessment helps teachers gain insight into what students understand in order to plan and guide instruction, and provide helpful feedback to students.
Assessment as learning: where students develop an awareness of how they learn and use that awareness to adjust and advance their learning, taking an increased responsibility for their learning.
